RODALE PRESS TO TEST ALT.SPORT TITLE By Wayne Friedman Inside Media Believing in blading and 'boarding for baby boomers, Rodale Press is ready to test alt.Sport, a Generation X and older-skewing magazine about these and other modern sports. With a focus on snowboarding, rock climbing, in-line skating, wind surfing, and mountain biking, the first issue of alt.Sport is scheduled to appear on newsstands next summer with a run of 200,000- 300,000 copies. These activities will be covered in a magazine edited for those who like to dabble, but not necessarily specialize, in such exertions. Two more issues are slated to follow in 1996. The title will also explore some other unusual recreations, like flying jet fighters and auto racing. The book, produced by the Rodale Specials Division, will take a service-oriented approach akin to other Rodale publications like Men's Health, Bicycling and Runner's World. "Being in ad sales, I saw the real need for this in the marketplace as an emerging category," said publisher David Madden, who has spent three years developing the effort. Previously, Madden was advertising sales director at Runner's World. =Cowles/SIMBA Media Daily 11/14/95= =Copyright 1995 SIMBA Information Inc. All rights reserved.= Transmitted: 95-11-14 19:03:30 EST
