FELDMEILEN, Switzerland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 13, 1995--DNR SPORTSYSTEM Wednesday announced that it will introduce a new soft boot/step-in binding snowboard system to retailers worldwide in February 1996 at ISPO, the international trade show in Munich, Germany, and in March 1996 at the SIA Show in Las Vegas. The new system was developed by DNR in a joint program with ski binding technology leader MARKER and the renowned boot company TECNICA. Experts estimate that 80 percent of the world's snowboard population uses soft boots. Such a system clearly has benefits in the areas of mobility and foot comfort. However, snowboarders are also well aware of the current disadvantages of such systems. DNR has been well aware of the need for a solution in this area, though the development of such a product proved to be extremely difficult. After several years of research and development and significant financial commitment, DNR concluded that it was necessary to completely reinvent the snowboard boot/binding interface. DNR's staff also realized that it would take the cooperation and technical knowledge of strong partners familiar with the winter-sports industry to successfully complete the project. The joint DNR, MARKER and TECNICA system features a completely new snowboard boot/binding interface, entry and exit convenience and a new soft boot design which offers comfort, mobility and more precise power transmission and edge-pressure distribution than is currently available. In commenting on the announcement, DNR Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Lucio Roffi said: "As a leader in the snowboard industry, it is necessary for DNR to design, develop, manufacture and distribute superior products. "DNR's association with MARKER and TECNICA in the development of this new system brings years of experience in winter sports and new technology to the snowboard industry. DNR's new soft boot/step- in binding system is an example of a product that will significantly improve the sport of snowboarding." The new system will be marketed through DNR's international distribution network and will be available to snowboard consumers at retailers throughout the world in the fall of 1996.
